“Now is the only time that matters.”
Natoma is not one of these. No one who has met Natoma would ever call her “ordinary.” It was clear she was meant for great things from a young age.
Natoma is the younger daughter of one of the wealthiest families in all of Uranna, itself the wealthiest and most prosperous human nation. Growing up, she idolized her older sister, Abiri, a talented girl who had trained in athletics and martial skills from a young age.
One day, Abiri grew sick, and simply did not get better. Her father used his fortune to summon the best doctors and Healing wizards money could buy, but none could help her.
Abiri wasted away until her sickness claimed her, and Natoma was devastated by the loss of her beloved sister.
As a way to remember Abiri, Natoma took up the wooden practice sword Abiri had trained with and began practicing the same sword forms her sister had. She found that there was peace in the search for the perfect form, the ideal cut. It taught her to live in the moment, to not be claimed by the grief of the past or worry for the future.
Natoma’s entire life became a tribute to Abiri. She lived out her sister’s dream and joined the military as soon as she was old enough. There, her calm and focused mind, not to mention her uncanny natural talent with a blade, quickly sent her shooting through the ranks.
Natoma now serves as guard captain for Nettoh Province, the northernmost region of Uranna. This makes her one of the most important figures in the Urannan military. She was even awarded a suit of full plate armor as a mark of her position, a rare luxury in a world where most metal goes to forging war Automatons.
Wealthy, talented, politically influential, and incredibly beautiful, Natoma is one of the most eligible bachelorettes in her nation, and she has been pestered by an unending stream of suitors since she was little more than a child. Thus far, none have succeeded in winning her over. She has long since lost interest in superficial things like riches, fame, power, or good looks. It would take something more to capture her attention.
Despite all her successes and all the prestige she has earned, Natoma has not allowed herself to be claimed by arrogance. Her worldview focuses only on the now, and she sees no point in boasting over her past successes.
Likewise, Natoma does not know fear, worry, hate, or resentment. She is a bright light, inspiring all around her. In the dark times that are to come, heroes like her will be needed to bring hope to humanity.
